I was asked once by an American Internet acquaintance, in dumbfounded sincerity, "Why do you celebrate Thanksgiving in October?? It's in NOVEMBER!!!" I explained that Canadians aren't particularly thanksful for anyone landing at Plymouth Rock, and that, as a different country, we celebrate thankfulness on a different day. My friend followed up with "Well, what day do you celebrate Christmas on?" to which, because I was tired and not thinking, I replied to honestly. I missed a great opportunity to sow further misinformation south of the border, dammit.
