A friend passed along the following link today: Hot Pants

I post this not only because it's absolutely one of the funniest things that I've read in a long time; not only because it somehow brought back fond memories of leather tuxedos; but also because it got me to thinking about the silly things that we do, all to gain the affection / acceptance / respect of others...

High heels, short skirts, corsets, under wire...it's been well documented that women have, for centuries, gone to extreme and uncomfortable lengths to meet society's concept of "fashionable", "sexy" or "desirable". Not to make light of a very serious issue, but it's nice to see that men can be the victims of fashion stupidity all for love of the opposite sex.

If we ever get to the point that men are expected to wear extremely uncomfortable clothes (sorry guys, ties don't cut it in) just to be considered attractive, then maybe we can all throw out the high heels forever.

Until that time, enjoy the ad, and tell me if this guy's style doesn't remind you of a certain couple of guys that we know well...and be sure to read the Q&A!

This made me laugh, which confused my co-workers (it is not a sound they hear often). I did indeed own leather pants, back when (a) they were cool and (b) I thought I was cool, but in my own defense I feel obliged to point out that I am the owner of the aforementioned leather tuxedo and that the pants were only worn as part of the entire ensemble, and that I owned a motorcycle, which leather pants are ideal for.

On a side note, I still own both the tuxedo and the motorcycle, although neither have been used in at least 12 years (I know for a fact I used the motorcycle in '93, because that's what the sticker on the rear plat says). The leather pants have long ago passed into the great beyond, which is probably for the best.
